A Tribute to Vernon
At the turn of the century, card-magic leaped into a new age of innovation. S.W. Erdnase’s 1902 publication of The Expert at The Card Table has become the conjuror’s bible - a treatise on card-artifice the world of magic had never seen before. Erdnase’s work is essential reading for those interested in card-table deceptions, and has been re-published continually over the past hundred years.
Much later, Dai Vernon, the father of modern close-up conjuring, would revisit The Expert at The Card Table adding his own methods and maneuvers to the already coveted treatise. Vernon’s additions were published in a new compendium, Revelations, that would forever change the course of card magic.
Today, we are pleased to commemorate this celebrated meeting of the minds through A Tribute to Vernon. Created in collaboration with artist Dan Frederickson, each uncut sheet, measuring 22 x 26.5 inches, features Ross Bertram’s photo of Vernon surveying the 1902 text, reimagined through the text of The Expert at The Card Table. The reverse, playing cards one through fifty-two, is a reproduction of the Bee® brand deck Erdnase would have used at the turn of the century.
Each uncut sheet is paired with a signed and numbered certificate in the form of a deck of cards. Additionally included are a museum-grade placard, letter pressed and fit for a gallery, and a playing card featuring a facsimile of Vernon’s signature and his age old mantra: “be natural.” Join us as we invite you to hang history on the wall - a true work of art and a constant source of inspiration.
